History |

| North Lake Campground was first developed on Catskill Forest Preserve Land in 1929. At this time North and South Lakes were separate divided by an earthen dam. The campground was developed on North Lake only, as South Lake was privately owned. In 1972 the campground was expanded to 219 site, its present level. With the purchase of South Lake in 1984 the two lakes were joined together to create one large lake and a dam was built at the outlet of South Lake. |

| This park is the most popular state property in the Catskill Park. Hiking the many trails in the mountains surrounding the lake to nearby points of interest is the most common activity of the park. |
